Martin Halla opens the 11th Annual Ice Music Festival in Geilo
Still, cold air surrounded the audience as Martin Halla (winner of the The Voice Norge) opened #icemusicfestival2016 in -22ºc - more than cold enough to tickle the vocal cords. Accompanied by Snorre Bjerck on ice percussion & Ivar Kolve on ice percussion & icephone (yes, these instruments exist 😎) the sound they produced was sublime. A super way to kick of all things ice music!
Later this evening at 20:00 we open the first of 2 performances with 'Flower Power with African Ice & Groove' with Mamadou Diabate on Ice Balafon, Daniel Herskedal on 'Tubice', Helge Nordbakken & Snorre Bjerck working the Ice Drums and Kristin Voreland Ice Music Festival Artist for 2016.
Mamadou from Burkina Faso totally amazed the Ice Music Festival 2015 audience. Such was his popularity, we had to invite him back. For 2016, Mamadou will be interacting with two of Norway's master drummers!
Daniel Herskedal currently holds the world record for playing dark tones on a tuba. Can he break the record with the Tubice?
This year’s Ice Music Festival artist: the wonderful Kristin Voreland from Atelier Flora. Winner of the European Champion of Floral Art and with flowers being the visual theme for 2016, Kristin's exhibition will add a beautiful finishing touch to the arena.
Then at 22:00, we finish off the evening's music with the 'Icelandic Ice Sessions' featuring Trio Mediæval on vocals, Arve Henriksen improvising with Ice Trumpet & ethereal vocal, accompanied by Terje Isungset (AKA The Ice Man) with his Ice Percussion and Johannes Lundberg playing Ice Bass (yes, these instruments exist 😎).
Trio Mediæval's mesmerising ethereal harmonics combined with Arve's infectious improvisation wowed 2015's audience. They return with new work accompanied by Johannes on the Ice Bass and Terje's world of ice. Both performances will be in Geilo's outdoor Amphitheatre, slap bang in the middle of town.
#icemusicfestival2016 will be a truly unique way to kick start 2016!
