Towers Of Snow - 1 Day To Go...

Good morning Ice Music Fans of the world - one more day to go until 2014's Ice Music Festival kicks off!

Another perfect day in Geilo - no wind, a steady -19c and loads of snow and ice. Winter was late in Norway this year so we're really happy the lower temperatures are back.

We're now into day 3 of preparations with tomorrow hosting the first performances. Local folk music hero Eilif Gundersen dropped by early yesterday to make his ice instruments with Bill Covitz. He and Bill decided to try out a completely new instrument too and we're pleased to report that it worked perfectly, with Eilif developing a new breathing method to play it!

More musicians arrive today on various trains from Oslo S & Bergen - the first being harpist supremo Sidsel Walstad on the 11.34am. Bill and the cut team have already prepared the base section of Sidsel's new ice harp and will be ready to start the main frame with Sidsel. How will this ambitious ice instrument sound?

International and national media interest is healthy this year. We have comprehensive coverage with BBC / BBC Radio, NPR Radio Washington DC, Bloomberg Business Week, GEO Magazin, The Guardian, Prog Magazine, China's Xinhua News Agency, Aftenposten, NRK, Rzeczpospolita and a host of blogs and cultural news feeds across Europe.

The Ice Music Team have been working wonders piecing together Helder Neves's brand new stage design (Helder top left). Helder is taking advantage of incorporating the splendid new arena in Geilo's centre - an architectural wonder which opened last October for the benefit of the residents of Hol Kommune.

With such a great audience area already set, Helder has concentrating on designing our largest ever stage to host the world's first all Ice Orchestra this Saturday night. And with the Estonia's finest snow sculptors working along side our lighting technicians, the Festival is going to look as good as it sounds.

If you're already in Geilo, please drop by and say hello :-)
